Barbara Strong

Assistant Chief Executive  

Barbara has worked in the NHS for 33 years. 

After completing a degree in languages at the University of Wales , she trained as a registered general nurse. 

She has worked in various clinical settings and in several hospitals in Merseyside after qualifying, eventually settling into operating theatre work. 

Barbara spent over ten years in operating theatres working clinically, managing and training staff, and ultimately managing theatres and sterile services. 

She then moved into general hospital management holding various senior posts. More recently, she developed an interest in project management and was responsible for project managing the development of an NHS Treatment Centre. 

During her years in management she gained further first degrees in science and technology, an MSc in Health Care Ethics. 

It is nearly four years since she left the acute sector to work in the PCT. 

Her current portfolio includes managing the Chief Executive’s Directorate and leading on corporate projects; communications; public and patient involvement and engagement; PALS and complaints. She leads an “industrious, committed, and very creative team.”
